Vanlife in Northwest Arkansas | Bentonville, Rogers, and Beaver Lake Adventures
Northwest Arkansas continues to prove why it is one of the best hidden gem destinations for vanlife, mountain biking, and outdoor adventure.
In this episode of Detour Diaries, we spent the week bouncing between Bentonville and Rogers, mixing trail riding, paddleboarding, lakeside camping, and some of our favorite local spots. It was the perfect blend of adventure and everyday vanlife.
If you are planning a trip to Northwest Arkansas or looking for your next vanlife destination, here is everything you need to know.
Why Northwest Arkansas Is Perfect for Vanlife
Northwest Arkansas has quietly become one of the best regions in the country for vanlife and outdoor travel.
You get:
World class mountain biking in Bentonville
Access to lakes like Beaver Lake for water activities
Tons of free or low cost overnight parking options
Great food, coffee, and breweries
A strong outdoor and travel friendly community
It is one of those places where you can stay productive, stay active, and still feel like you are on a real adventure.
Overnight Vanlife at Cracker Barrel
We kicked off the week with a classic vanlife move, overnight parking at Cracker Barrel in Bentonville.
If you are new to vanlife, Cracker Barrel is known for being one of the more reliable overnight parking options across the country. Many locations allow RVs and vans to stay for a night, making it a great stop when you are passing through or need a quick reset.
Why it works
Easy access right off main roads
Free overnight parking in most cases
Quiet and predictable setup
It is not glamorous, but it gets the job done and gives you a safe place to land for the night.
Camping at Beaver Lake near Rogers
After Bentonville, we made our way over to one of our favorite spots in the area, Horseshoe Bend Campground on Beaver Lake. This was easily one of the highlights of the week.
Why we loved it
Campsites right on the water
Quiet and relaxed atmosphere
Easy access for paddleboarding and swimming
Great mix of sun and shade
Waking up next to the lake, making coffee by the van, and heading straight out on the water is about as good as it gets.
If you are traveling through Northwest Arkansas, Beaver Lake is an absolute must.
Paddleboarding on Beaver Lake
We spent one of our mornings paddleboarding on Beaver Lake, and it is one of the best ways to experience the area. The water is calm in many of the coves, which makes it perfect for paddleboarding or kayaking. You can explore shoreline areas, find quiet spots away from people, and just slow things down for a bit. It is a great contrast to the high energy riding days in Bentonville. If you are planning to get out on the water, bringing a paddleboard or renting one locally is 100 percent worth it.
Riding at Coler Mountain Bike Preserve
No trip to Bentonville is complete without riding at Coler Mountain Bike Preserve. We found ourselves coming back here multiple times throughout the week.
What makes Coler so good
Flow trails that are fun for every skill level
Technical features if you want to push it
Shaded riding areas
Direct access from nearby camping
It is one of the most well built trail systems we have ridden and is perfect whether you are just getting into mountain biking or looking for something more advanced.
Staying Active on the Road
One of the things we prioritize while living on the road is staying consistent with fitness, and Northwest Arkansas makes that easy. We stopped in at Planet Fitness for workouts and showers, which has become a regular part of our routine while traveling. Having access to a gym while living in a van makes a huge difference, especially on longer trips.
Local Spots You Should Not Miss
Northwest Arkansas has an awesome local scene, and we made sure to hit a few of our favorite spots.
Heroes Coffee
A great place to start your day. Solid coffee, good atmosphere, and a perfect stop before heading out to ride or explore.
Natural State Beer Company
Laid back brewery with a great outdoor vibe. Perfect for relaxing after a full day of riding or being on the water.
Bentonville Brewing Company
Another staple in the area. Good beer, plenty of space, and a great place to hang out in the evening.
The Perfect Balance of Adventure and Lifestyle
What makes Northwest Arkansas stand out is how well everything flows together. You can wake up at the lake, paddleboard for a few hours, head into town for a workout or coffee, ride world class trails in the afternoon, and end the day at a brewery with friends. It is that balance of adventure and everyday lifestyle that makes this area so easy to stay in longer than planned.
Final Thoughts on Northwest Arkansas Vanlife
Northwest Arkansas continues to be one of our favorite stops on the road. Between Bentonville, Rogers, and Beaver Lake, you get a little bit of everything. Trails, water, community, and convenience all in one place. If you are looking for a destination that works for vanlife, remote work, and outdoor adventure, this is one you should not overlook.
