Vanlife in Colorado for Thanksgiving | Summit County Snowboarding, Denver, and Holiday Life on the Road

Spending Thanksgiving on the road might sound unconventional, but this week in Colorado proved it can be one of the most memorable ways to celebrate the holiday.

We split our time between Summit County and Denver, chasing early season snow at Arapahoe Basin and Copper Mountain while also slowing things down to enjoy a full Thanksgiving experience out of the van.

From snowboarding in the mountains to cooking a holiday meal in a tiny space, this week was a perfect mix of adventure and comfort.

Early Season Snowboarding in Summit County Colorado

We started the week in Summit County, one of the best places in Colorado for early season snowboarding.

With access to multiple resorts within a short drive, it is easy to maximize your time on snow.

We rotated between:

  • Arapahoe Basin near Keystone

  • Copper Mountain near Frisco

Both mountains offered solid early season conditions, with fewer crowds and a relaxed atmosphere that makes this time of year so enjoyable.

It is not about peak conditions yet. It is about getting back on snow and building momentum for the season ahead.

Cold Nights and Vanlife in the Mountains

Living out of the van in Summit County during early winter brings its own challenges.

Cold nights, frosty mornings, and the need to stay organized in a small space all become part of the routine. But it also comes with incredible rewards.

Waking up surrounded by mountains
Easy access to ski resorts
Quiet places to park before the busy season begins

It is one of the best ways to experience Colorado in the winter.

Heading to Denver for Thanksgiving

After a few days in the mountains, we made our way down to Denver for Thanksgiving.

We based ourselves near Evergreen, just outside the city, which gave us a quieter place to park while still being close to everything we needed.

Evergreen is a great option if you are traveling through Denver in a van. It offers easy access to the city while still feeling connected to the mountains.

Staying Clean and Active with Planet Fitness

One of the biggest questions people have about vanlife is how you handle basic routines like working out and showering.

For us, Planet Fitness has become a go to solution.

Locations throughout Denver make it easy to:

  • Get in a workout

  • Take a hot shower

  • Reset after time in the mountains

It is a simple system that makes a huge difference when you are living on the road full time.

Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner in a Van

One of the highlights of the week was cooking a full Thanksgiving meal out of the van.

With only an Instant Pot and limited space, we kept things simple but still made it feel like a real holiday.

Our menu included:

  • Green chili mac and cheese

  • Mashed potatoes

It was a reminder that you do not need a full kitchen to enjoy comfort food. With a little creativity, vanlife can still feel like home.

Thanksgiving in Denver Colorado

Thanksgiving itself was all about slowing down.

We spent time with friends, watched football, and took a break from the constant movement that usually comes with life on the road.

Being able to celebrate in a familiar setting, even while traveling full time, made the holiday feel even more meaningful.

Back to Summit County for Snowboarding

After a couple of days in Denver, we headed back up to Summit County.

The mountains were starting to come alive for the season, and we were able to get in a few more days of riding at Arapahoe Basin and Copper Mountain.

Each day felt a little more like winter.

River Run Tree Lighting in Keystone Colorado

One of the best ways to wrap up the week was attending the River Run tree lighting in Keystone.

This event marks the official start of the holiday season in Summit County.

Festive lights throughout the village
A lively atmosphere with people celebrating the season
A true winter mountain town experience

It was the perfect way to transition from fall into winter and fully embrace the holiday season in Colorado.

What Vanlife Looks Like During the Holidays

This week showed what vanlife can look like during the holidays.

Balancing time between cities and mountains
Cooking meals in small spaces
Finding ways to stay clean and active
Making time for friends and meaningful moments

It is a different kind of holiday, but one that feels just as rewarding.

Why Colorado Is a Great Holiday Vanlife Destination

Colorado offers a unique combination that makes it ideal for holiday travel.

Easy access between Denver and Summit County
Multiple ski resorts for early season riding
Mountain towns that fully embrace the holiday season
Plenty of resources for vanlife and remote living

Whether you are staying in the mountains or dropping into the city, everything is within reach.

Final Thoughts

This week was a perfect reminder that you do not have to sacrifice tradition to live on the road.

You can still celebrate holidays, enjoy good food, spend time with friends, and create meaningful experiences, all while living out of a van.

From early season snowboarding in Summit County to Thanksgiving in Denver and ending with holiday lights in Keystone, this stretch of the trip had everything we love about winter vanlife in Colorado.
