Vanlife in Boulder and Denver | Fall Adventures in Colorado’s Front Range
There is something special about the Colorado Front Range in the fall.
Cool mornings, golden leaves, and that perfect balance of mountain access and city convenience make it one of the best places to spend time on the road. This week, we based ourselves around Boulder and Denver, soaking up everything from sunrise workouts to foothill hikes, with a few unforgettable moments in between.
If you are looking for a destination that blends outdoor adventure with everyday livability, this part of Colorado is hard to beat.
Why the Colorado Front Range Is Perfect for Vanlife
The Front Range offers a unique mix that is tough to find anywhere else.
You get immediate access to the mountains while still being close to major cities like Denver and Boulder. That means you can hike in the morning, grab coffee in town, work during the day, and still catch a sunset in the foothills.
For vanlife, it checks all the boxes.
Easy access to gyms and grocery stores
Plenty of outdoor spaces to explore
Reliable service for remote work
A strong community and active lifestyle
It is one of the easiest places to settle into a rhythm while still feeling like you are traveling.
Sunrise Workout at Red Rocks Amphitheatre
We started the week with one of the most iconic workouts you can do in Colorado. Climbing the steps at Red Rocks Amphitheatre at sunrise is no joke. The elevation hits, the stairs keep coming, and by the time you reach the top, you have definitely earned the view.
But that is what makes it so worth it.
Watching the sun come up over the Front Range while getting in a workout is one of those experiences that sticks with you. It is a reminder that in Colorado, even your workouts come with a view.
Hiking the Chautauqua Trail in Boulder
After Red Rocks, we headed up to Boulder to hike one of the most well known trails in the area, the Chautauqua Trail.
This hike gives you classic views of the Flatirons, those massive rock formations that define Boulder’s skyline. It is an approachable trail with incredible payoff, making it perfect whether you want a quick morning hike or a longer day outside.
In the fall, it gets even better.
Golden leaves line the trail, the air feels crisp, and the mountains stand out even more against the clear blue sky. It is one of those places that reminds you why people fall in love with Boulder.
Vanlife in Boulder
We spent most of the week based in Boulder, and it is one of the best places we have found for vanlife.
You get:
Easy access to hiking trails and mountain views
Coffee shops and places to work remotely
Grocery stores and everyday essentials
A strong outdoor community
It is the kind of place where you can park, settle in for a few days, and still feel like you are constantly exploring.
A Wedding Weekend to Remember
One of the highlights of the week had nothing to do with trails or workouts.
We were in town to celebrate our friends Tom and Kersten’s wedding, and it ended up being one of those nights you do not forget. Good people, great energy, and a dance floor that somehow never slowed down.
Moments like this are a big part of why we love vanlife. It gives us the flexibility to show up for the people and experiences that matter most, no matter where they are.
Exploring the Foothills and Front Range
In between everything else, we spent time exploring more of the foothills and surrounding areas.
Driving through the Front Range in the fall is an experience on its own. You get rolling hills, mountain backdrops, and pockets of fall color that seem to appear around every turn.
It is the kind of place where even a short drive feels like part of the adventure.
Local Stops Along the Way
No week on the road is complete without a few solid stops along the way.
Scheels
We stopped into Scheels for some gear browsing, which always turns into more time than planned. It is a great place to check out outdoor gear, especially if you are traveling and need to pick something up along the way.
Buc ee’s
And of course, we made a necessary stop at Buc ee’s.
If you know, you know.
It is one of the best places to stock up on snacks, grab quick food, and reset before getting back on the road. When you are living in a van, stops like this are part of the routine.
Why Colorado Still Feels Like Home
Weeks like this are a reminder of why we keep coming back to Colorado.
You have big mountains, endless trails, and an active lifestyle, but you also have community, events, and the ability to live a normal day to day life.
That balance is what makes it special.
Final Thoughts
This week in the Colorado Front Range was the perfect mix of adventure and real life.
From sunrise workouts at Red Rocks to hiking in Boulder, celebrating friends, and exploring the foothills, it was everything we look for when we are on the road.
If you are planning a trip or looking for a place to base yourself for vanlife, Boulder and Denver should absolutely be on your list.
