Winter Guide: Winter in Panorama, British Columbia
Panorama Mountain Resort might not be the first name that comes to mind when planning a ski trip in British Columbia, but that is exactly what makes it so special. Tucked into the Purcell Mountains, this place delivers incredible terrain, deep snow, and a laid back vibe that is getting harder to find at bigger resorts.
We spent time here during a Powder Highway trip and quickly realized Panorama is one of those places that quietly overdelivers. Fewer crowds, great snow, and tons of terrain to explore.
Why Panorama in Winter
Panorama is one of the most underrated ski destinations in Canada.
Here is why it stands out:
Massive vertical with over 4000 feet of skiing
Consistent snowfall with dry interior BC powder
Wide open groomers and steep advanced terrain
Minimal lift lines compared to bigger resorts
True ski in ski out village feel
If you are looking for a place where you can ski hard all day without fighting crowds, Panorama checks every box.
Resort Overview
Panorama Mountain Resort offers a great mix of terrain for all levels.
Beginner
Long mellow runs near the base area
Intermediate
Wide open groomers that go on forever
Advanced
Steep glades, bowls, and technical lines off Taynton Bowl
One of the highlights here is how easy it is to access advanced terrain. You are not hiking for hours or waiting in lines. You can lap some seriously fun terrain all day.
Lift Access and Terrain Highlights
Some key areas you will want to explore:
Taynton Bowl
This is the crown jewel of Panorama. Big mountain terrain, steep lines, and incredible views. It feels much bigger than you would expect.
Champagne Express
Fast access to some of the best intermediate and advanced runs on the mountain.
Sunbird Chair
Great for quieter laps and exploring less crowded terrain.
How to Get to Panorama
Panorama is remote, but that is part of the appeal.
From Calgary
Drive time is about 3.5 to 4 hours
Take Highway 1 west toward Banff
Head south toward Invermere
Follow signs to Panorama
From Invermere
Panorama is about 20 minutes from town
Invermere is your best bet for groceries, gas, and anything you forgot
Where We Stayed
We kept it simple and stayed in the resort parking lot in our converted van, which made for an incredibly easy and budget friendly setup. Waking up right at the base and being able to roll straight into a ski day is hard to beat.
If vanlife is not your style, there are plenty of great options both at the resort and nearby in Invermere.

A Perfect Snowboarding Day in Panorama
Here is how we would plan a full day on the mountain:
Start early and head straight to Champagne Express
Warm up with a few groomer laps
Move into Taynton Bowl once conditions are right
Take a break for lunch in the village
Spend the afternoon exploring glades and quieter zones
Finish the day with a long top to bottom run
Panorama is the kind of place where you can ski all day and still feel like you have more to explore.
Other Things to Do in Winter
If you are taking a rest day or traveling with non skiers, there are plenty of options.
Hot pools in the village
Snowshoeing and cross country trails
Ice skating
Day trip to Invermere
The hot pools are a must after a long day on the mountain.
Where to Eat
Panorama has a few solid options right in the village.
T Bar and Grill
Great for casual meals and drinks
Cliffhanger Restaurant
Good views and a solid sit down option
Alto Kitchen and Bar
More elevated dining experience
If you head into Invermere, do not miss Ullr Bar. It is one of the best spots in town for great food, a fun atmosphere, and solid drinks after a day on the mountain.
Right down the street, you will also find The Invermere Bakery, which is perfect for grabbing coffee and baked goods before heading up to ski.
Where to Apres
Panorama keeps things pretty laid back, which we actually love.
T Bar is the main on mountain spot for drinks after skiing
If you want a more lively scene, head into Invermere and check out Ullr Bar. It is easily one of the best apres spots in the area and a great place to hang after a full day on the mountain.
